Methodology
The Access Hybritech Total PSA and Free PSA assays are a paramagnetic particle, chemiluminescent immunoassay for the quantitative determination of total and free prostate specific antigens (PSA) levels in human serum using the Access Immunoassay Systems.

Specimen Requirements
Patient Preparation: For 12 hours before specimen collection do not take multivitamins or dietary supplements containing biotin (vitamin B7), which is commonly found in hair, skin, and nail supplements and multivitamins.
Supplies: Aliquot Tube, 5 mL (T465)
Collection Container/Tube:
Preferred: Serum gel
Acceptable: Red top
Submission Container/Tube: Plastic vial
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions: Centrifuge and aliquot serum within 3 hours of collection

- Specimen should be processed (centrifuged) and refrigerated within 3 hours of blood draw
- Store samples tightly stoppered at room temperature (15 to 30°C) for up to 3 hours
- If the assay will not be completed within 3 hours, refrigerate the samples at 2 to 8° C for up to 24 hours
- If the assay will not be completed within 24 hours, freeze at -20° C or colder
- Frozen specimen can be stored up to 5 months before testing
