Oral Glucose Tolerance Testing (GTT) is useful in the diagnosis of Hyperglycemic disorders.

Specimen Requirements

Procedure:
1. Patient does not need to be fasting.
2. Administer 50 g dextrose drink.
3. Draw specimen 1 hour post-dextrose administration.

 

Preferred: Plasma

Container/Tube:  Lt Green/Mint top (lithium heparin) tube
Acceptable: Serum
Container/Tube: Plain red-top or gold serum gel tube
Specimen:  1 mL (minimum volume:  0.2 mL)

Collection Instructions:  Forward promtly.

Specimen Stability

Ambient: 8 hours

Refrigerated: 72 hours

Frozen: -20C > 72 hours
