Test Code LAB209 Cell Count w/ Reflex Differential, Body Fluid

Important Note

For Spinal Fluid sources, please use LAB212 Cell Count, Spinal Fluid.

 

A differential will also be performed for any sample with a WBC count greater than 10 WBC/mm3.

Intended Use

The analysis of body fluids identifies and enumerates total nucleated cells (White Blood Cells and others) and Red Blood Cells and assists with the identification of reactive, infectious or malignant processes.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Body Fluid


Container Type: Purple Top (EDTA)

Submit 1 mL (minimum volume:  0.25 mL) of body fluid. 

 

 

Internal Specimens may be sent in a screw-capped sterile container. If sending from an outside site, please send in the appropriate container type when possible. 

Specimen Stability

Ambient: 4 hours

 

Refrigerated (Preferred): 24 hours

 

Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
