Chromogenic agar is used in the detection of nasal colonization with MRSA. The media is selective and differential through the incorporation of specific chromogenic substrates and antibiotics. To use the medium, a nasal swab is inoculated to chromogenic MRSA agar and incubated aerobically for 24 hours to directly detect colonization by MRSA.
