Test Code LAB234 Culture, Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)

Intended Use

Chromogenic agar is used in the detection of nasal colonization with MRSA.  The media is selective and differential through the incorporation of specific chromogenic substrates and antibiotics. To use the medium, a nasal swab is inoculated to chromogenic MRSA agar and incubated aerobically for 24 hours to directly detect colonization by MRSA.

Specimen Requirements

Collect nasal specimen using Eswab or other culture transport swab containing either Amies or Stuart liquid transport medium.
