Intended Use
Neisseria gonorrhoeae is the cause of the venereal disease gonorrhea. It may also be isolated from conjunctiva, throat, rectal mucosa, peritoneal fluid, CSF and joint fluid. N. meningitidis is a primary cause of septicemia and cerebrospinal meningitis. It may be isolated from blood, CSF, petechial lesions, sputum, joint fluid, oropharynx, urogenital, and rectal mucosa. In addition, the nonpathogenic or saprophytic Neisseria species ad Moraxella catarrhalis which are part of the normal flora of the respiratory tract have been implicated in cases of pneumonia, otitis media, sinusitis, meningitis, septicemia, bronchitis, endocarditis, conjunctivitis and other infections.

Specimen Requirements
Collect specimen using Eswab or other culture transport swab containing either Amies or Stuart liquid transport medium.
Specimens should be transported to the laboratory promptly.
Note: Organism viability for Neisseria gonorrhea may be compromised if sample is not received and processed within 24 hours

Ambient (preferred): up to 24 hours.
Refrigerated: up to 24 hours.
