Intended Use

Detect gastrointestinal colonization with vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium and Enterococcus faecalis (VRE) to aid in the prevention and control of VRE infections in health care settings.

Specimen Requirements

Rectal Swab:  Collect specimen using Eswab or other culture transport swab containing either Amies or Stuart liquid transport medium.  Rotate swab 1" inside anal opening.

OR

Stool:  Submit 2 g to 3 g of stool specimen in a screw-capped, sterile container.

  1. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and time of collection, and type of specimen. 
  2. Specimens should be transported to the laboratory promptly.

Specimen Stability

Ambient (preferred): 24 hours

Refrigerated: 48 hours
