Intended Use

Used to evaluate the amount of urea in the blood before and after dialysis. In addition, it is done to asses the adequacy of dialysis.

Post-Dialysis BUN - LAB2401

Methodology

Photometic/Urease Includes blood urea nitrogen and urea reduction ratio calculation.

Specimen Requirements

Preferred: Plasma (heparinized)

Container/Tube:  Lt Green/Mint-top (lithium heparin) tube

Acceptable: Serum

Container/Tube: Plain, Red-top or Gold, serum gel tube

 

Specimen Volume:  1.0 mL (minimum volume 0.1 mL)

Collection Instructions:  Both a pre-dialysis and  post dialysis specimen are required for this test. Please label samples appropriately. Forward promptly.

Ambient: 8 hours

Refrigerated: 48 hours

Frozen (-20ºC): >48 hours
