Test Code LAB276 Type and Screen, Blood

Important Note

If a patient does not have a previous blood type on file, LAB276 (Second ABO/Rh Type) is automatically added on to the original type and screen order and requires a second, separate blood draw whereby the collector must identify the patient via the same means they did for the original Type and Screen collection.

Intended Use

Forward and reverse typing is performed on samples for all patients greater than four months of age to allow for discovery of subtypes as well as to confirm typing. Individuals less than four months old may not have developed sufficient antibody to allow for detection. Samples are also "screened" for antibodies. A positive antibody screen will be worked up to identify the antibody that caused the positive screen.
