Test Code LAB324 Thrombin Time
Intended Use
The test is typically used for the evaluation of Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC), monitoring heparin anticoagulant and fibrinolytic therapy, detection of the presence of Fibrin/Fibrinogen Degradation Products (FDP), hereditary or acquired qualitative and quantitative fibrinogen abnormalities and increased fibrinolysis.

Specimen Requirements
Required: Platelet-poor plasma (sodium citrate)
Collection Container/tube: Light blue-top (3.2% sodium citrate) tube
Submission Container/Tube: Plastic vial
Specimen Volume: 1.0 mL (minimum volume 0.5 mL)
Collection Instructions: Spin down, remove plasma and spin plasma again. Forward promptly.
Additional Information: Double-centrifuged specimen is critical for accurate results as platelet contamination may cause spurious results.
