Intended Use

This assay is intended as a screening test for infection with HIV-1 and/or HIV-2 including acute (primary) HIV-1 infection.  The performance of this assay has not been established for neonates, and the assay should not be used in individuals younger than 2 years of age.

If HIV1 p24 Ag with HIV1/2 Ab is POSITIVE,  the following tests will be reflexed.

 

HIV1 Antibody
HIV2 Antibody
HIV1 p24 Antigen
HIV1 and HIV2 Confirmation

Specimen Requirements

Acceptable: EDTA Plasma

Container/tube: Lavender-top (EDTA) or EDTA Plasma Preparation gel tube (PPT)

Specimen Volume: 2 mL EDTA Plasma

Collection Instructions: Separate serum from cells promptly.  False positive results can occur if the serum remains on the cells for > 24 hours. Forward promptly.

Ambient: 4 days

Refrigerated: 7 days

Frozen: -20C > 7 days
