Quantiative measurement of ferritin in human serum or plasma to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of iron deficiencies and iron overload, or to differentiate iron deficiency anemia from anemia of chronic disease

Specimen Requirements

Preferred: Plasma (heparinized)

Container/tube: Lt green/mint top (lithium heparin) tube

 

Acceptable: Serum

Container: Plain, red-top or gold, serum gel tube

 

Specimen Volume:   1.0 mL (minimum volume 0.55 mL)

 

Collection Instructions: Forward promptly.

Specimen Stability

Refrigerated (preferred): 48 hours

Ambient: 8 hours

Frozen (< -20C): > 48 hours, only thaw once
