Specimen Requirements
Submit 1 mL of gastric fluid, obtained by nasogastric intubation or vomitus, in a screw-capped, sterile container. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Note: Indicate specimen source on specimen container and request form.
Specimen Stability
Gastroccult Card:
Ambient: Preferrably tested within minutes. Can be tested up to 4 days after application of sample on card.
Sample in sterile screw-top container:
Ambient (preferred): 24 hours
Refrigerated: 5 Days
