Specimen Requirements

1. Submit 10 mL of well-mixed dialysate in an IsolatorTM 10 tube. Collect dialysate before administering antibiotics.  As well as sending 20 mL of fluid in sterile container.

2. Exit site infections should be cultured only if purulent exudate is present. This purulent material is collected on the standard culture transport system, ordered, and processed as a lesion culture.

3. Label tube with patient’s name (first and last), date and time of collection, and type of specimen.

4. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.

Note:  Specimen source is required on request form for processing.
