Specimen Requirements
1. Peel back label from CLOtest® test to expose gel. Physician will remove biopsy specimen from forceps with a sterile needle and push it into CLOtest® media gel. Tissue must be completely immersed so that it will have maximum contact with urea and bacteriostatic agent in gel.
2. Reseal CLOtest® and document patient information on label.
3. Label container with patient’s name (first and last), date and time of collection, physician’s name, and type of specimen.
4. Order test code “CLOTEST” under the MIC order entry category in computer. A request form will automatically print for each order. The request form must accompany the specimen to the laboratory.
5. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
6. Physician will examine CLOtest® for immediate color change from yellow to red or magenta. If there is an immediate color change, physician will record results on patient’s request form and send this record to the Microbiology Laboratory.
7. If there is no immediate color change, CLOtest® is placed into a biohazard bag, with request form in side pocket, and sent to the Microbiology Laboratory.
