Specimen Requirements

Plasma (or Serum) and urine are required for this test. Blood specimen should preferably be obtained at the mid-point of the 24-hour period of urine collection.

 

Preferred: Plasma (heparinized)

Container/tube: Lt green/mint top (lithium heparin) tube

Acceptable: Serum

Container: Plain, red-top or gold, serum gel tube

Specimen Volume:   1.0 mL (minimum volume 0.1 mL)

Collection Instructions:  Forward promptly.

 

Urine

Specimen must arrive within 96 hours of collection.

10 mL from a 24-hour urine collection in a plastic urine container. No preservative. Send specimen refrigerated.

Note:  1. Height and weight and 24-hour volume are required on request form for processing.

           2. Follow instructions in “Urine Collection” in “Special Instructions.”

 

Specimen Stability

Refrigerated: 7 days

Frozen: -20C > 7 days
