Test Code LAB896 Fetal-Maternal Hemorrhage Screening Test (Fetal Screen)

Important Note

For postpartum screening, the maternal blood should be collected after the delivery of all products of conception, prior to the administration of therapeutic anti-D (Rhogam).

Intended Use

Used for the screening of pregnant mothers suspect of fetal/maternal bleed. Rh immunization in pregnancy most commonly results from the fact that at delivery a variable amount of fetal blood enters the maternal circulation when the placenta separates from the uterine wall. This may result in the production of allo-anti-D by the mother if the fetal cells are Rh positive and the mother is Rh negative.
