Intended Use

Utilized for the detection of eosinophiluria by Hansel's stain is an important noninvasive way to evaluate unexplained acute renal failure.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen must arrive within 30 minutes of collection.

 

10 mL from a freshly voided urine collection in a plastic urine container. No preservative.

 

If above requirements cannot be met:

1.  Centrifuge 10 mL of freshly voided urine at 1800 rpm for 5 minutes.

2.  Decant the supernatant and use 1 drop of the sediment to make two slides. If the sample appears to contain many WBC's make two direct smears from un-centrifuged urine as well.  Let all slides dry and transport to lab labeled with patient name and one other identifier.

Specimen Stability

Ambient: 30 minutes

Eosinophils deteriorate quickly
