Important Note

Intended Use:  Measurement of PCT in conjunction with other laboratory findings and clinical assessment aids in the risk assessment of critically ill patients on their first day of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admission for progression of severe sepsis and septic shock.

Methodology

The Liaison Brahms PCT II Gen assay uses chemiluminescence immunoassay for in vitro quantitative determination of procalcitonin (PCT) levels in human serum and lithium heparin plasma.

Specimen Requirements

Preferred: Plasma (lithium heparin)

Container/Tube:  Lt Green/Mint top (lithium heparin) tube

Acceptable: Serum

Container/Tube: Plain red-top or gold serum gel

Specimen:  0.5 mL (minimum volume 0.25)

Collection Instructions:  Forward promptly.

Specimen Stability

Refrigerated: (2-10°C)  48 hours

Frozen: (-30 to -15°C)  75 days
