Test Code LAB9025 Urinalysis Dipstick with Microscopic - Reflex to Urine Culture

Important Note

A urine culture will be reflexed under the following conditions:

Nitrites: Any amount of nitrites detected: Positive

Leukocyte esterase: Any amount of leukocytes esterase detected: Trace, Small, Moderate, or Large

WBC: If the WBC/HPF is: 10-14, 15-29, 30-49, 50-75, 76-100, > 100, or + (packed field)

Bacteria: If the bacteria is moderate or many

Yeast: If the yeast is moderate or many

EXCEPTION: Greater than 10 squamous epithelial cells/HPF which may indicate possible contamination, will stop the reflex order.  The provider can submit a culture order to override the possible contaminated sample to be submitted for culture.  If the squamous epithelial cells/HPF are greater than 10 and WBC/HPF is greater than 100 or packed field, the lab will call the provider.

Intended Use

Semi-quantitative or qualitative detection of bilirubin, blood (occult), glucose, ketone (acetoacetic acid), leukocytes, nitrite, pH, protein, specific gravity and urobilinogen in urine samples.

Microscopic exam of human urine aids in the diagnosis of urinary tract infections (UTI), kidney disorders, metabolic disosorders, or urinary tract injury.

This test will automatically reflex a urine culture if the specifications listed above are met. Urine cultures are performed to isolate and identify pathogenic organisms in human urine.
