Specimen Requirements

Swab samples collected from herpetic cutaneous and mucocutaneous lesions (anorectal, genital-vaginal/cervical, nasal, ocular, oral, urethral, skin, genital-penis):  

Swab specimen must be stored in BD UVT, Remel M4, Remel M4RT, Remel M5, Remel M6 or UTM transport media.

 

Do not use calcium alginate swabs, as they may contain substances that inhibit PCR testing.
