Test Code LAB1197A Treponema pallidum (Syphilis) Antibody, Total w/reflex to RPR
Intended Use
Qualitative determination of total antibodies directed against Treponema pallidum in human serum. The presence of antibodies to Treponema pallidum specific antigen, in conjunction with non-treponemal laboratory tests and clinical findings may aid in the diagnosis of syphilis infection.
Warning: A positive result is not useful for establishing a diagnosis of syphilis. In most situations, such a result may reflect a prior treated infection. A negative result can exclude a diagnosis of syphilis except for incubating or early primary disease.
Note: If the syphilis antibody is reactive then a Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) test will be performed and titered if indicated.
